| PHEWA seeks nominees for social
ministry awards

LOUISVILLE -- December 20, 2002 -- The Presbyterian
Health, Education and Welfare Association (PHEWA) is seeking nominations
for its six social welfare ministry awards, which will be presented
during next summer's 215th General Assembly in Denver. Deadline for
nominations is Feb. 14.
The Community Ministries and Neighborhood
Organizations (COMANO) Award recognizes a faithful and creative
community ministry.
The Nancy Jennings Award is presented by Presbyterians
for Disabilities Concerns (PDC) to a person, congregation or PC(USA)
entity for its ministry on behalf of persons with disabilities.
The Presbyterian Network on Alcohol and Other Drug
Abuse (PNAODA) gives the David Hancock Award to a church or church
professional for their contribution to addiction prevention,
intervention and recovery; and the Margaret A. Fuad Award to a layperson
who has been instrumental in getting the church and/or community
involved in issues related to alcohol and drug abuse.
The Presbyterian Serious Mental Illness Network (PSMIN)
presents the Florence Iversen Kraft Award to a congregation for its
outstanding ministry with those who have a serious mental illness and
their families.
The Urban Network of Congregational Leadership (UNCL)
Award recognizes an urban congregation that has strengthened itself and
its neighborhood through an effective outreach ministry.
Nominations must include the name of the nominee with
address and phone number, a contact person for the nomination with
address and phone number, and a two-page description of the ministry and
why it should be recognized. Nominations may be submitted by mail to
PHEWA, 100 Witherspoon St., Louisville, KY 40202; or by fax to
502-569-8034.
