South Asia Earthquake |
One person's response to the devastating
earthquakes in Pakistan and South Asia ...
Earth Shaking
by the Rev. Bobbie McGarey
God Help
We hear the stories
of wind and rain and storm
of floods of water and mud
and shaking quaking shaking earth
of no homes or jobs or hospitals
and we cry out like the psalmist
and the Savior –
O God why have you forsaken us.
So we turn on the TV and shop
for a ‘must-have’ handbag
reduced to $150! wow!
And we sip our ’bucks coffee
that we deserve because
we are worth-it
and wail
"I just don’t know what I can
do?"
So we hurry off to Wal-Mart
and find everything we need
and don’t need
and worry about what to do
with all we have
While people wrapped in blankets
their only cover
hold their hands to us
and cry…
The Peace of God be with you!
This poem came to us with a short note by the poet:
I got a link about the troubles in Guatemala, and then the Pakistan
quake and aftermath, and wrote this.
God abides
Bobbie

Voices of Sophia blog
Heather Reichgott, who has created
this new blog for Voices of Sophia, introduces it:
After fifteen years of scholarship
and activism, Voices of Sophia presents a blog. Here, we present the
voices of feminist theologians of all stripes: scholars, clergy,
students, exiles, missionaries, workers, thinkers, artists, lovers
and devotees, from many parts of the world, all children of the God
in whose image women are made. .... This blog seeks to glorify God
through prayer, work, art, and intellectual reflection. Through
articles and ensuing discussion we hope to become an active and
thoughtful community. |
