For the Peace of the World
A Christian Curriculum on International Relations
For the Peace of the World seeks
answers to questions of international relations and provides a resource for
further reflection. The study guide weaves together many strands of
Christian faith that would inform the discussion of current events. It is
meant to be the centerpiece of a larger, long-term conversation that, as a
nation, and as people of faith within this nation, we will have for many
years to come.
The revised draft of the curriculum was written by Dr.
Peggy L. Shriver, in consultation with Dr. Donald Shriver. Dr. Janice Love
wrote the accompanying essay, "Multilateralism: Faithful Reflection on
International Relations." Rev. Dr. Clifton Kirkpatrick and Rev. Dr. William
H. Hopper Jr. wrote the "Biblical Foundations for International Policy"
material.
The initial draft of this curriculum was field tested in
several congregations from the Protestant and Orthodox traditions. This
draft was rewritten based upon the results of the field tests. The entire
project has been funded so far by generous grants from the Rockefeller
Brothers Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Carnegie Corporation, and the
Tides Foundation.
The project was developed at the National Council of
Churches USA by Rev. Dr. Eileen Lindner, Deputy General Secretary for
Research and Planning. The field test of the curriculum was conducted by
Rev. Lindner and Rev. Marcel Welty, Assistant Director for Research and
Planning.
