Emergency Action for Women's Lives - Rally in
DC
You are invited to join Equal Partners in Faith and
other activists at NOW's Emergency Action for Women's Lives (for more
information, see www.us.net/epf or www.now.org).
When: Sunday, April 22, 2001
Rally 11:00 AM
Step Off at 2:00 PM
Where: Upper Senate Park (Constitution Avenue and Delaware
Avenue, NE) Washington, D.C.
Note: The rally will take place at Upper Senate Park, not on the
Monument grounds as previously announced.
JOIN US: Look for the Americans United banner. AU and EPF have signed on
as a sponsoring organizations. Rev. Barry Lynn, executive director of
Americans United and member of the EPF Advisory Board, will be one of
the featured speakers.
Equal Partners in Faith is also taking part in the Women's Health Fair
on the Mall, following the march. Please stop by the Americans United
booth (we're sharing) and say hello!
Among the other 60 sponsoring organizations are: the Religious Coalition
for Reproductive Choice, Catholics for a Free Choice, Catholics for
Contraception, African-American Women's Clergy Association, WATER
(Women's Alliance for Theology, Ethics and Ritual), National Abortion
and Reproductive Rights Action League, National Gay and Lesbian Task
Force, Feminist Majority, Black Women United for Action, National Black
Police Association, National Black Women's Health Project, Planned
Parenthood Federation of America and YWCA of the USA.

GA actions
ratified (or not) by the presbyteries
A number of the most important actions of the 219th
General Assembly have now been acted upon by the presbyteries,
confirming most of them as amendments to the PC(USA) Book of Order.
We provided resources to help inform the
reflection and debate, along with updates on the voting.
Our three areas of primary interest have been:

Amendment 10-A,
which removes the current ban on
lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender persons being considered as
possible candidates for ordination as elder or ministers.
Approved! |

Amendment 10-2,
which would add the Belhar Confession to our Book of
Confessions. Disapproved, because as an amendment
to the Book of Confessions it needed a 2/3 vote, and did not
receive that. |
|
Amendment
10-1, which adopts the new Form of Government
that was approved by the Assembly. Approved. |
