National council of Churches of Christ. He says, "We are excited
about the upcoming CBS religious special on NCCC's Micah 6 project. I
thought you would be interested in the information that follows. Please

CBS RELIGION AND CULTURE SPECIAL
"Answering Micah's Call" is
being sent to CBS stations on June 24 [see below for how to get specific
station information]
"Answering Micah's Call" is the second of
four religious specials produced by CBS this year in cooperation with
the Interfaith Broadcasting Commission (of which the National Council of
Churches is a member). It was filmed in Atlanta where there are six
churches participating in the "Micah 6" project. Rev. Noelle
Damico introduces the program with music interpreting the Micah 6:8
passage, saying that it calls us to "not just think about
ourselves" but to respond to a timeless challenge with a much
deeper commitment. Segments depict the Ebenezer Baptist Church, the
Intown Community Assistance Center, St. John's Lutheran Church, the
First Presbyterian Church, and the First African Methodist Episcopal
Church and the ways in which they interpret the Micah 6 project for
their own church communities.
At Ebenezer Baptist Church the Rev. James Victor and
volunteer Anna Davenport show how faithful and committed individuals
work in justice and healing ministries, and how Ebenezer is able to
partner with other Micah 6 congregations. St. John's Lutheran
demonstrates building relationships toward advocacy work and asking the
tough question "who's not here" (around the table). First
Presbyterian (George Wirth, pastor, and Charles Black, associate pastor)
feed the hungry through a volunteer Meals on Wheels program. Rev. Dr.
Earl McCloud at First African Methodist Episcopal Church works at a
prison ministry that builds relationships within the community.
All of these programs combine the Biblical mandate to
do justice and love kindness and walk humbly with your God into programs
that reach into the community while at the same time building up the
strength of the congregation.
Toward the end of the program interviews with Rabbi
Brett Isserow and Monsignor Henry Gracz indicate how Micah 6 can be an
interfaith effort. As Noelle Damico concludes, "Micah 6 has the
potential to be a strong interfaith program."
"Answering Micah's Call" will be fed to CBS
stations on June 24. To see if it has been cleared by the CBS station in
your community, go to www.interfaithbroadcasting.com
and click on "IBC Program Information". Then click on
"CBS Answering Micah's Call" and again on "Clearance
Report". If you find that your local CBS station is not planning to
carry this program, call them to urge that they do so -- there is a
six-week "window" in which the program can be carried.
After it has been on-air the program can be ordered in
VHS video format by calling: 1-800-494-6007 (cost: $19.98 + $4.95 for
S&H).

GA actions
ratified (or not) by the presbyteries
A number of the most important actions of the 219th
General Assembly have now been acted upon by the presbyteries,
confirming most of them as amendments to the PC(USA) Book of Order.
We provided resources to help inform the
reflection and debate, along with updates on the voting.
Our three areas of primary interest have been:
 |
Amendment 10-A,
which removes the current ban on
lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender persons being considered as
possible candidates for ordination as elder or ministers.
Approved! |
 |
Amendment 10-2,
which would add the Belhar Confession to our Book of
Confessions. Disapproved, because as an amendment
to the Book of Confessions it needed a 2/3 vote, and did not
receive that. |
 |
Amendment
10-1, which adopts the new Form of Government
that was approved by the Assembly. Approved. |
