Iraq and Oil
|
It's
all about a little help for the oil companies
The Rev. Arch Taylor has sent us this note, which he
has submitted to the Louisville Courier-Journal Readers Forum
[9-18-02]
The Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld administration continues its
campaign to hijack international affairs and go to war against Saddam
Hussein, while the so-called war on terrorism falls off the screen.
Without presenting any plausible evidence of an imminent threat from
Iraq, Bush rejects every offer of concessions from Hussein and makes
ever more stringent demands.
Most recently Rumsfeld has ordered US and British air
strikes to go beyond retaliation against Iraqi defensive action to begin
taking out Iraq's air defense installations in preparation for a ground
attack.
Can anyone doubt the underlying motive of this Bush
administration, honeycombed as it is with people having close
connections with the oil industry? If anyone still wonders about it all,
the headline over a Washington Post story carried in the Courier-Journal
on September 16 should remove all doubt: "Saddam's ouster could
mean windfall for U.S. petroleum companies."
As a U.S. citizen and taxpayer, I strenuously object
to my government committing international crimes against the sovereign
state of Iraq, causing the deaths of thousands of non-combatant
civilians, endangering the lives of U.S. military personnel, and
increasing our national budget deficit by additional billions of
dollars, for the benefit of U.S. petroleum companies.
