Crusade to 'cure' gays was wrong,
says founder
[4-11-01]
Jeremy Marks, who founded an evangelical charity to
"heal" homosexuals in Britain, has announced that its mission
was mistaken and that same-sex love is "God-given." He bases
his change of mind on his own experience of a relationship which he had
with another man, before he married in an effort to change his
sexuality. Reflecting on the earlier relationship, which was never
sexual, he said: "I found it the most healing experience I have
ever known, restoring my confidence in God. Because God acknowledged and
met my desire for another man's love, my self-confidence was also
restored. Prior to that relationship I had tried every route of
"deliverance" open to me from psychotherapy to Christian
counselling, healing prayer, even exorcism. All to no avail."
The report notes that because of Marks' changing the focus of his
organization, Courage Trust, it will likely be expelled from the
Evangelical Alliance. Looking toward the future of the Trust, Marks is
quoted as saying: "We want to get away from the emphasis on sex.
People don't get married for heterosexual sex; they marry for love. The
same is true for many homosexual relationships."

full report from the Electronic Telegraph in Britain.

this new blog for Voices of Sophia, introduces it:
After fifteen years of scholarship
and activism, Voices of Sophia presents a blog. Here, we present the
voices of feminist theologians of all stripes: scholars, clergy,
students, exiles, missionaries, workers, thinkers, artists, lovers
and devotees, from many parts of the world, all children of the God
in whose image women are made. .... This blog seeks to glorify God
through prayer, work, art, and intellectual reflection. Through
articles and ensuing discussion we hope to become an active and
