| Lisa Larges
becomes fifth Minister Evangelist for That All May Freely Serve
[12-12-01]
TAMFS has announced that Lisa Larges will begin
service on January 1, 2002, as their Regional Partnership Coordinator.
In this new created full-time position, Ms. Larges "will promote,
facilitate, and coordinate the network of regional partnerships to make
these relationships even more effective at calling the Presbyterian
Church (USA) to full inclusion of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and
transgender (GLBT) people."
The Rev. Dr. Jane Adams Spahr, Minister Director of
TAMFS, says of Larges: "Lisa embodies the meaning of this movement
through her integrity, her faith, her amazing communication skills from
preaching to computers, her great sense of what it means to be a team
player, her compassion, her ability to listen, and her love and passion
for justice. I am honored to serve beside her as we work together with
our regional partners."

| More Light Presbyterians announces
second National Field Organizer
More Light Presbyterians media release
[6-8-01]
Austin, TX - The Board of Directors of More Light
Presbyterians announced that the search for a new National Field
Organizer has been completed and Katie Morrison, M.Div. has been called
to serve MLP. Katie will join Michael Adee, in reaching out to
Presbyterians nationwide as both educators and advocates for the full
inclusion of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender persons in the life
and ministry of the Presbyterian Church (USA).
"Katie brings terrific skills and enthusiasm to
this work", said Mitzi Henderson, co-moderator of MLP. "She
will greatly expand our outreach, assisting local members, groups and
chapters to extend their education and welcome to Presbyterians in their
local areas. We are fortunate to have found her."
"All together, 22 people responded to the
position announcement. We received so many qualified applications and it
was a tough decision to make. As I see it, this is testimony to the
strength of our movement" said Marco Grimaldo, who chaired the
search committee.
The committee included Rev. Gene Huff of Marin, CA,
Rev. Robin White of Baltimore, MD, and Rev. Erin Swenson of Atlanta,
GA.
"Where the world closes a door, God opens a
window for more light to break through. Allelujah!" said Katie.
"I am thrilled about this wonderful opportunity to live further
into my call to ministry within the Presbyterian Church
(USA)."
Katie went on to say that she is looking forward to
partnering with MLP members as together, we seek to "fling wide the
gates of justice so that the church may be a place of full inclusion for
all people."
Katie Morrison will officially begin her work with
More Light Presbyterians in mid-September. Katie is a graduate of San
Francisco Theological Seminary and currently resides in Oakland, CA.

GA actions
ratified (or not) by the presbyteries
A number of the most important actions of the 219th
General Assembly have now been acted upon by the presbyteries,
confirming most of them as amendments to the PC(USA) Book of Order.
We provided resources to help inform the
reflection and debate, along with updates on the voting.
Our three areas of primary interest have been:
 |
Amendment 10-A,
which removes the current ban on
lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender persons being considered as
possible candidates for ordination as elder or ministers.
Approved! |
 |
Amendment 10-2,
which would add the Belhar Confession to our Book of
Confessions. Disapproved, because as an amendment
to the Book of Confessions it needed a 2/3 vote, and did not
receive that. |
 |
Amendment
10-1, which adopts the new Form of Government
that was approved by the Assembly. Approved. |
