Heartland Presbytery, meeting on
January 30, voted 97 to 67 to send the following overture to the General
Assembly:
[1-31-01]
1. Section G-600106(b) on the Form of Government
shall be stricken from the Book of Order;
and
2. the following new Section shall be substituted
for Section G-6.0106(b):
"Sessions, in considering candidates to the
office of elder and deacon, and presbyteries, in considering
candidates to the office of Minister of Word and Sacrament, shall have
responsibility to consider all matters of sin and grace manifest in
the moral and ethical conduct of candidates as measured against the
model exemplified by Jesus Christ who came not to be served but to
serve. A candidate for ordination shall conform to the high standards
of responsibility and accountability set forth in the scriptural and
constitutional standards of the church, while knowing that "all
have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God."
